5 Essentials For Summer

We're less than one week away from the official start of summer, and what better way to celebrate than with my first blog post! Let's be honest, out here in LA the weather is basically always perfect! It's one of the reasons why I'm in love with this city. But regardless of our lack of a proper season change, there's still something so magical about summer –the energy, the extra warmth, the feeling of freedom. It takes me straight back to those grade school days and that undeniable feeling of absolute joy when that bell finally rings on the last day of school!  Summer will always be summer vacation to me.

I want to share the 5 Summer Essentials I can't live without! From sun burns, to razor bumps, overheating, and everything in between, our lovely summer season can sometimes be a pain! #nohardfeelings

So here's the lineup!

  1. Peppermint Cooling Mist

  2. After Sun Spray

  3. Bikini Ready Spray

  4. Citrus Bliss

  5. Lemon Peppermint Water Refresher

1. Peppermint Cooling Mist

First up on the list, is our Peppermint Cooling Mist! This one's so easy to make, but so effective. You're gonna wonder how you ever went without it!

Ingredients: Distilled Water, Peppermint Essential Oil.

Not a joke, peeps! That's it.

Recipe: (4oz spray bottle, adjust as needed)

  1. Grab a glass or stainless steel spray bottle (try to avoid plastic, essential oils are very strong and will eat through them).

  2. Add 8 drops of Peppermint Essential Oil

  3. Fills the rest with Distilled Water

  4. Gently shake before each use, and spray lightly on your face or neck to help cool you down.

As the water evaporates, and the wind catches the peppermint on your skin, you will feel a gentle cooling sensation. It works wonders!
BONUS TIP: If you happen to be planning a Disney vacation (especially in Florida), you'll want to bring this with you! You'll thank me later. :)

2. After Sun Spray

Up next, is our After Sun Spray! Soaking up some sun is inevitable during the summer months. You can bet you'll find me at the beach more often than not! But the truth is, any change of pigmentation to the skin, is a sign of damage. Yes, that beautiful summer glow we all want and love is still hurtful to our cells! I always suggest wearing at least spf 30 sunscreen everyday, even if you aren't tanning. Sunscreen is really our best skincare product.

This spray will help to repair, cool, and nourish your skin after a little too much sun! It's so important to take care of your skin to prevent signs of premature aging, and damaged cells.

Ingredients: Aloe Vera Juice, Fractionated Coconut Oil, Vitamin E, Lavender Essential Oil, Eucalyptus Essential Oil, Frankincense Essential Oil.

Recipe: (16oz spray bottle, adjust as needed)

  1. Grab a glass or stainless steel spray bottle (as always, try to avoid plastic)

  2. Add 1 cup of pure Aloe Vera Juice

  3. Add 1/4 cup Fractionated Coconut Oil

  4. Add 1 Teaspoon of pure Vitamin E (optional)

  5. Add 8 drops of each of the following (Lavender, Eucalyptus, Frankincense)

  6. Gently shake and spray on clean skin. Massage over sunburned area

You have no idea how much this solution has helped me in the past! I burn relatively easy, and this has prevented gross peeling skin so many times. Definitely an A+ DIY solution in my books.

3. Bikini Ready Spray

Alright ladies, you're gonna love this one! We all love whipping out our best one pieces and bikinis around this time. But that means bare legs, and more visible skin! This spray is perfect to help soothe any razor bumps you might get from shaving.

Ingredients: Fractionated Coconut Oil, Rose Water, Lavender Essential Oil, Myrrh Essential Oil, Frankincense Essential Oil, Helichrysum Essential Oil.

* There's a lot of oils in this one, use the ones you have and adjust ratios accordingly.

Recipe: (4oz spray bottle, adjust as needed)

  1. Grab a glass or stainless steel spray bottle

  2. Fill half the bottle with Fractioned Coconut Oil

  3. Add 5 drops of each of the following (Lavender, Myrrh, Frankincense, Helichrysum)

  4. Fill the rest with Rose Water (If you have rose essential oil, you can add 1 drop with distilled water instead)

  5. Gently shake and spray on area after shaving. Massage into skin.

4. Citrus Bliss

This one's not a DIY recipe, but it's my favorite blend for summer, so it had to make the list! Citrus Bliss is a sweet, refreshing, and uplifting blend that I diffuse all summer long! There's an endless amount of diffuser recipes you can experiment with this season (I will probably do another blog post on this topic alone), but this one comes conveniently blended for you!

Ingredients In Citrus Bliss: Wild Orange Peel, Lemon Peel, Grapefruit Peel, Mandarin Peel, Bergamot Peel, Tangerine Peel, Clementine Peel essential oils and Vanilla Bean Absolute.

Let me tell you, IT SMELLS LIKE PURE HAPPINESS IN A BOTTLE. Add about 5-8 drops in your diffuser, and sit back as the aromas take over your entire home.

5. Lemon Peppermint Water Refresher

Last but not least, let's talk about hydration! It's so important to be drinking a lot of water during the summer. The sun can drain you out pretty quickly. My favorite thing to do is add a drop of lemon, or peppermint (or both!) into my water. I usually keep a pitcher inside my fridge already made and ready to go.

Not only will you be getting the benefits of these essential oils, your water will taste absolutely delicious!

Lemon Internal Benefits: Adding lemon to your water will lightly detox your body throughout the day, support your digestive system, and even help with respiratory support.

Peppermint Internal Benefits: Peppermint helps soothe an upset stomach and supports your respiratory system as well. Best of all, it will leave your mouth feeling super refreshed and help cool your body down in the summer heat.

**Remember not to use any plastic water bottles, pitchers, or containers, especially when consuming these oils internally.
